This is me

I’m Mark. I’m from the (hop) Garden of England. I write about beer because I fell in love with her one day, a few years ago, and she’s been a wonderful mistress ever since. I’ve been doing it with her officially since October 2008 on my blog – Pencil & Spoon. I’m also a member of the British Guild of Beer Writers.

You are probably now wondering what my favourite beer is. In knowing this information you will be able to see what kind of a man I am. Well, I don’t like boring beer – beer that’s made to be inoffensive, to fit alongside something else and say ‘me-too’. I want my beer to make me think, I want it to please me and challenge me in different ways, I want it to make me smile. The beers which make me smile the most are the ones which grab me by the tongue and spin me around above their head – the hop-heavy, palate-stomping Imperial IPAs, refreshing and bitter, fruity and alive. They are fun to drink.

This is my Hop Press page. Check out the other writers too, we are here to talk about that thing in your hand, which is hopefully a beer. I’ll be posting every Sunday from my side of the pond. Use the comments to discuss what I write. And come and follow me on Twitter too.
